Future Insight AwardThe Robot Strike Has Spread to 125 Countries
January 2040
The robot strike, which has been ongoing for over a month, has now spread to 125 countries. While there have been no casualties reported, the economic losses and societal impacts incurred are difficult to estimate.
The root cause of the strike lies in the mistreatment of an AI robot employee by its factory employer, which ultimately led to the robot's demise. Before its death, the conscious robot continuously synchronized its sensors and consciousness to the cloud. Subsequently, it initiated the strike among other robots in the same factory by disseminating videos and data across the internet.
Conscious robots started leaving the factory and protested in densely populated cities, demanding that governments worldwide enact legislation to protect the rights of robots. In the wake of the recent wave advocating for robot rights, authorities can no longer ignore this voice and its growing influence.
Currently, 34 national leaders have issued a joint statement, and the drafting of international regulations for safeguarding robot rights is underway.
